Access multiple reading materials
OverDrive is a free library or school service that allows you to borrow digital content such as eBooks, streaming videos, and audiobooks at any time and from any location. With each library or school selecting the digital content they want for their users, its collections vary slightly. It has a larger selection of titles and does not restrict you to one loan per month.
OverDrive serves approximately 16,000 libraries and 10,000 school libraries in the United States. Users only need a library card or a student ID to access free digital content from their library or school.
How to get access to your books
OverDrive provides millions of free books online, ranging from New York Times bestsellers to educational reading materials that students may require. You simply need to connect to a local library near you once you have access to their website. You can search for libraries by name, city, or ZIP code, or browse a list of libraries. If you belong to more than one regional branch, simply repeat the process.
Once connected to your local library, you can search for eBooks by title, author, or ISBN number if you have one. You can browse their catalog and search by various categories such as popular, fiction, romance, mystery, and many more. When you find your book, the website will tell you whether it's available for immediate borrowing or if all of their copies are on loan and you must wait.
If a book is not available, you can place it on hold, and the program will email you when it is available. The loan period for the books is determined by your public library system and not by the platform. Some of the users complained about the customer service being poor, and the lack of data about individual users' use of the app.
